FASLA, will present principles from his latest book, Up
by Roots: Healthy Soils and Trees in the
Built Environment, in a one-day, hands-on workshop. This
event is designed to introduce key concepts used in site
assessment and give attendees experience performing
basic soil analyses. “Up By Roots” will focus on site
assessment and plant selection and has applications in
site development, landscape design, tree protection, and
plant health care.

Birding Hike

LBJ National Grasslands

Go on a
birding hike led by a Master Naturalist. Birding field
trips take place monthly on the LBJ National Grasslands.
This is a great way to get outdoors and learn or improve birding
skills. The hikes are led by experienced Master
Naturalist. Contact the Caddo/LBJ National Grasslands
(U.S. Forest Service) office in Decatur for more details

Los Bosques Urbanos
Se imagina vivir en un lugar sin árboles,
sin parques o vegetación. Nuestro hábitat sería
desolador, la contaminación dominaría el mundo y
habríamos perdido gran parte de la calidad de vida que
diariamente disfrutamos.
La vegetación ayuda, sin duda, a aumentar
el nivel estético de nuestro entorno. Plantar y
reforestar árboles no solo contribuye a aumentar la
plusvalía de nuestros vecindarios, sino que también son
espacios de reunión, para que niños y adultos puedan
descansar, relajarse y divertirse.
A lo largo de la historia de la humanidad
y en distintas civilizaciones, los árboles y los parques
han simbolizado el crecimiento de la sociedad y de la
familia; son parte de los recuerdos y también son
testigos del desarrollo de un pueblo. Los temas
siguientes le invitarán a aprender un poco sobre los
árboles, los beneficios de los parques en nuestras
ciudades y el impacto que tienen los parques o bosques
urbanos en las comunidades.
